A Q&A with Fay Gambe, HR Manager
Q: How did you get into human resources and what brought you to PBSC?
A: So, picture this…I was like a lost penguin in a desert, trying to figure out my career path after completing a Sociology degree with no idea of how I was going to put to good use. But then, I discovered my knack for understanding people and solving problems. That's when I realised Human Resources was my calling.
As for this awesome company, what drew me to it? The people! Well, firstly it was Kirsten’s warm and welcoming call after receiving my application. Then the 5 people that interviewed me (I promise It wasn’t scary) then the benefits…I mean, who wouldn't want to work in a place where you can do whatever you like for a whole hour on Thursdays and staff socials are an actual thing?
Q: Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-size duck?
A: Alright, let's tackle this animal kingdom throwdown! Tough choice, but I think I'd go for the one horse-sized duck. I mean, think about it—duck-sized horses might be fast, but a giant duck? That's a tale to tell! I'd probably equip myself with a massive fresh loaf of bread and turn that feathered beast into a friendly bestie!
Q: What would be your ideal holiday or travel destination if money and time were no object?
A: A tropical paradise somewhere in Africa—think white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, and breakfast with giraffes. I'd spend my days lounging in a hammock, sipping cocktails with little umbrellas, being fed grapes and strawberries by Tom Cruise (could probably afford that service) and indulging in all-you-can-eat ice cream.
Q: I heard you speak a language other than English—what is it?
A: I’m tempted to lie and list all the interesting languages, but I speak a native language from my home country Zimbabwe called ‘Ndebele’. Very similar to Zulu, with a lot of clicks…if you’ve ever watched the movie ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’, it sounds very similar to that.
Q: What’s your favourite thing about PBSC, so far?
A: Now, let me tell you about the absolute best thing about this company. It's the people! Seriously, they're like a big supportive family. We laugh together and we tackle challenges together (Bruno!).
